Secrets Add Depth: Transforming You into a Captivating Novel

Chapter 1: The Complexity of Secrets
Having secrets can enrich your persona, much like a novel filled with intricate tales, rather than a flat poster that conveys a single message.
Mystery seems to have vanished from our daily existence. In the Western world, many people are eager to share their entire lives on social media—everything from relationship status to vacation highlights and personal belongings.
I don’t consider myself superior to others; I also share many aspects of my life online. However, as I mature, I've come to appreciate the value of having some secrets, which adds a layer of intrigue to our otherwise mundane lives.
“I have grown to love secrecy. It seems to be the one thing that can make modern life mysterious or marvelous to us. The commonest thing is delightful if only one hides it.”
— Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
In a world overflowing with information, maintaining a sense of secrecy has become increasingly rare. For instance, rather than posting about your favorite reading nook in the park, why not keep it to yourself?
Section 1.1: The Vanishing Mystery
In the past, understanding someone required time and exploration. Nowadays, a quick glance at a person’s social media profile can reveal everything about them. This instant access removes the element of discovery from real-life interactions.
When you finally meet them, what is left to discuss? Topics often revolve around what you’ve already seen online, rather than engaging in deeper conversations about politics, philosophy, or literature. I, too, am caught up in this cycle of social media interaction.
I manage social media accounts for "When Stars Misguide Us," but I stepped away from personal accounts at the age of 22. Medium is where I currently express my thoughts and share images.
Reflecting on literature and historical photographs from 19th-century America reveals a time brimming with mystery and rich dialogue among people. Life seemed slower yet vibrant, fostering diverse conversations.
Subsection 1.1.1: The Art of Conversations
The beauty of a conversation lies in its fleeting nature. Once spoken, words dissolve, leaving only memories with those who participated. This discussion excludes any recorded formats like podcasts or broadcasts.
“Some things are more precious because they don’t last long.”
— Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray
In a genuine conversation, all our senses engage—listening, analyzing, and responding. Every exchange feels like a chess match, where I learn from each person I engage with. My goal is not to win, but to learn and grow.
Section 1.2: Meaningful Connections
By prioritizing meaningful interactions, artistic expression, and a quest for truth, we can cultivate a more satisfying experience in our lives.
