Celebrating the Joys of Reading: Embracing Every Story

Chapter 1 The Power of Reading
In discussions about literature, we often focus on authors and their craft. Today, let's shift our attention to the individuals who engage with our narratives: the readers. Reading offers an incredible escape, whether you’re immersing yourself in a captivating novel or gearing up for an important interview by diving into an inspiring autobiography. There truly is a genre for everyone.
Reading is a universal experience; it doesn't require any special skill. You simply relax, holding a book in one hand and a warm beverage in the other, and immerse yourself in the experience.
It's perplexing, then, that negativity can surface in this space.
Lately, I’ve noticed a troubling trend on Medium, where some individuals, convinced of their intellectual superiority, are quick to criticize others for their writing choices.
If no one else will, I will defend the freedom of expression.
Who are you to dictate what others can or cannot write? Writing and reading are for all. If something doesn’t resonate with you, simply move on. With countless articles published daily on Medium, why focus on what you dislike?
The existence of diverse viewpoints shouldn't bother you unless you allow it to. Personally, I’ve clicked on articles that didn’t appeal to me—what did I do? I sought out another story that captured my interest.
And let’s be clear: if someone wishes to write about Medium itself, they absolutely can. Don’t assume you can set the narrative. It’s bewildering to see such disdain directed at something as benign as discussing the very platform we share.
This negativity can be especially daunting for new writers who might hesitate to share their voices due to the judgment from a vocal minority. Don’t let them intimidate you. Write about what you feel passionate about. Remember, the block feature exists for a reason.
Apologies for my passionate tone, but I recently received an email from someone who stopped writing due to harsh criticism they received.
A key takeaway, and one that bears repeating:
Be kind; you never know the battles others are facing.
Remember, you have the choice not to engage with content that doesn’t interest you. That’s one of the greatest freedoms of reading.

Chapter 2 Embracing the Community of Readers
In this section, we highlight the importance of community in the reading experience.
The first video, "The Best Part of Me" by Wendy Ewald, explores the unique perspectives of individuals and their stories.
The second video, "Best Part of Me Read Aloud," brings to life the messages of self-acceptance and the value of personal narratives.
