A Tribute to George Orwell: Insights and Reflections

Chapter 1: Understanding George Orwell's Perspective
In his essay, "Benefit of Clergy: Some Notes on Salvador Dali," George Orwell opens with a striking line that resonates deeply:
"Autobiography can only be deemed credible when it exposes something shameful. A man presenting a favorable image is likely deceiving, as every life, when examined internally, reveals a series of setbacks."
Upon reading this, I found myself agreeing wholeheartedly.
What He Reveals
Orwell holds up a mirror to my own character, often reflecting traits that aren't particularly flattering:
"All writers are vain, selfish, and lazy" (from "Why I Write").
How He Achieves This
His ability to unveil these truths stems from his diligent self-examination and straightforward writing:
"I recognized that I possessed a knack for words and a capacity to confront uncomfortable truths" (from "Why I Write").
He encourages me to confront these realities:
"Two entities can share similarities while being vastly different. Heaven and hell can exist in the same realm" (from "Charles Dickens").
This realization struck me: my view of a location significantly shapes my experience of it. For instance, I reflect on how I would perceive the slums of Calcutta compared to how St. Mother Teresa viewed and engaged with them.
He further provides me — or at least opens the door for me to learn — how to articulate my thoughts regarding my perceptions and experiences. In "Politics and the English Language," he outlines six principles for employing "language as a tool for expression, rather than a means to obscure or inhibit thought." His sixth rule is particularly charming: "Break any of these rules sooner than utter something blatantly barbaric."
What I Can Take Away
I owe my gratitude to George Orwell, and I will persist in striving to observe closely and articulate clearly.
The first video, "LITERATURE - George Orwell," explores his literary impact and philosophies, providing a deeper understanding of his insights.
The second video, "The Paradox of Being a Good Person - George Orwell's Warning to the World," delves into the complexities of morality and ethics in Orwell's writings.
