Last Sunday, I unexpectedly participated in a Tantra Touch workshop in Lisbon, my new city. I walked in with no specific expectations (or perhaps a few). Here’s what unfolded and the significance it held for me.
It was a bright Sunday afternoon as I made my way to a home studio in Principe Real, a trendy neighborhood in the heart of Portugal's capital. Over the years, Lisbon has transformed into a haven for digital nomads, bustling with intriguing events and gatherings. To my surprise, this workshop was just one of many.
I told my brunch companions I was off to a self-development book club, feeling a bit embarrassed to reveal the truth. My curiosity was piqued, yet I was nervous—a state I'm quite familiar with.
As I climbed the stairs to the fourth floor, I pondered why I often place myself in such situations. Upon entering the room, the first thing that struck me was the sacred silence; everyone avoided speaking or making eye contact. Twelve cushions were arranged in a circle, half of them already occupied. I murmured a quick “hi,” took my place, and found myself staring at a random picture on the wall for what felt like an eternity.

The experience began with a focus on eye contact. We wandered around the room until our guide, Jana, instructed us to partner up and gaze into each other's eyes for several minutes. Initially, it was quite uncomfortable. You may have tried this as a playful challenge with friends, but doing it with unfamiliar faces proved to be enlightening. It felt as though you could glimpse their inner struggles, fears, and desires—understanding them without the need for words.
Then came the element of touch. Half of the group closed their eyes and stood still, while the other half walked around, observing them. The discomfort of being scrutinized left you vulnerable, devoid of the ability to present your best self. The individuals with open eyes chose part
