It’s amusing to reflect on how I could have delved deeper into Einstein's life earlier. I’ve often been mistaken for him and likened to his brilliance. Countless times, I've heard phrases like, “Hey Einstein, you’ve parked in the wrong spot!” or “Hey Einstein, that’s the ladies’ room!”
The comparisons began during my school years, with teachers frequently remarking, “Thet Lambert isn’t quite an Einstein!” While that might be their perspective, others had a different view. With this context in mind, here are some surprising facts you may not know about Albert.
He Declined the Presidency of Israel.
Einstein felt he lacked the necessary experience and people skills for the role. Plus, reality TV wasn’t his forte.
An Element is Named After Him.
Element 99, Einsteinium, was named in his honor shortly after his passing in 1955. Coincidentally, I too have an element named after me—the element of surprise, though it's unofficial.
His Final Words Remain a Mystery.
On his deathbed, he spoke in German, but the attendant didn't understand the language, leaving his last words lost to time. I can only speculate, perhaps he said, “Got a comb?”
Einstein Was an Avid Smoker.
He enjoyed smoking a pipe and often lit up a cigarette or cigar, believing it brought him tranquility—though he might have confused relaxation with lethargy.
He Prioritized Sleep.
Einstein believed that at least 10 hours of sleep was essential for optimal functioning. One can hope he didn’t mix smoking with sleeping!
His Eyes Reside in New York City.
They are stored alongside the eyes of Bette Davis. But what about his brain? Wasn’t that his most prized possession?
About That Brain...
It was removed just seven and a half hours after his death at Princeton Hospital—get your fresh brains here, hot off the press!
Brain Size vs. Functionality.
Although Einstein's brain was smaller than average, certain areas were exceptionally developed. I won't delve into the debate over size here.
Einstein Syndrome.
This term describes delayed speech in gifted children. At times, I wished my kids would enjoy a pause in their chatter!
J. Edgar Hoover's Opposition.
Hoover tried to block Einstein's entry into the United States, but his efforts were thwarted by the State Department.
His Second Wife Was His First Cousin.
Interestingly, her middle name was also Einstein. Can you imagine how intelligent their offspring could have been?
Einstein's Notable Head Size.
According to his mother, he was born with a notably large head, which might have been a source of cultural humor.
He Had a Poor Memory.
Einstein struggled with remembering names and dates, a similarity I share with him—oh, and yes, my head is sizeable too!
Auctioning His Theory of Relativity.
His handwritten theory sold for $6 million, potentially more if his handwriting had been more decipherable.
A Sockless Genius.
Einstein despised wearing socks, leading to the necessity of high boots for service in some restaurants.
