In recent years, I have dedicated considerable time to researching, purchasing, and testing various methods to enhance my personal health and wellbeing. However, I’ve come to realize that many conventional workout routines, nutritional plans, and wellness challenges often fail to deliver lasting results.

To clarify, these programs may provide short-term benefits but rarely contribute to long-term health and wellness. Many of these health trends deceive you into thinking that a new supplement, workout, or diet plan will miraculously resolve your health concerns, only to discover months later that it was no more effective than previous attempts. While I don’t deny that some valuable programs exist, the majority in the influencer space aren’t effective long-term solutions.

Fortunately, there are numerous strategies for allocating your funds in ways that foster enduring health and happiness. Below are six key areas where I invest to promote lifelong wellness.

Coaching: A Valuable Investment

Engaging a coach is one of the most beneficial investments you can make in your health. Whether you opt for a personal trainer, nutrition expert, or general health coach, having a coach provides the essential support network for maintaining various health initiatives.

Moreover, working with a coach has shifted my mindset to approach my health as a student would. This perspective encourages a fresh outlook, potentially leading to significant insights and breakthroughs.

Following Evidence-Based Research

Instead of getting lost in social media trends about health breakthroughs, focus on finding two or three credible academics, medical professionals, or health experts who consistently publish accessible work. Notable figures like Dr. Peter Attia and Dr. Rhonda Patrick are excellent resources, as they translate longevity research into actionable steps. Prioritize professionals who uphold rigorous scientific standards.

Investing in Physical Activity

Whether it's a bicycle, a gym membership, or even a backyard lap pool if your budget allows, investing in tools that promote physical activity is essential for long-term health. Research consistently shows that those who engage in regular exercise are more likely to enjoy longer, healthier lives.

Additionally, participating in races or competitive events not only fosters physical activity but also cultivates community support, which can be beneficial when training becomes challenging.

Measuring Progress Objectively

One of the most impactful purchases I’ve made recently is the Garmin Fenix 6X Pro activity smartwatch. As my friend and fellow writer, Matt Boute, notes, "If you lack clear evidence of your progress, you might be stagnating despite your efforts." Having objective metrics helps you gauge whether you are improving or plateauing in your health journey.

Choosing the Right Healthcare Provider

This point is particularly significant for those who have the option to select their healthcare provider. It’s crucial to find a medical practice that not only focuses on preventing illness but also promotes overall thriving. Much like a health coach, a competent and empathetic doctor can fundamentally change your approach to health.

Embracing the Outdoors

Investing in experiences or equipment that encourage outdoor activities is something I wholeheartedly support. For instance, I received a Hoyt Torrex compound bow for my birthday last year, which has enhanced my physical activity through frequent use and walking to retrieve arrows. Additionally, it serves as great preparation for potential hunting trips.
