Some of your tools may need replacement, and you might be stuck in a rut. Are there traits you wish you possessed? Skills you've been eager to develop? Perhaps a certain level of expertise you'd like to attain? Most likely, the answer is yes.

Now, consider this: how much effort have you truly dedicated to mastering these areas of your life? Let’s be honest, it’s just you and your journal here.

Who says you need to be a professional to gain from writing?

You must pose critical questions to yourself that will pave the way for achieving your objectives and transforming into a better version of yourself.

Having asked the previous questions, another emerges: Are you devoting sufficient time to acquiring those skills?

Don’t allow yourself to evade accountability — strive to be as objective as possible during this process without falling into harsh self-criticism.

For instance, perhaps you were once like me, struggling to articulate your thoughts. What did I do, you ask?

Well... I wrote.

“I just kept on running and running” — Forrest Gump.

Before I knew it, my words began to flow more freely in conversation, my thoughts became quicker, and I was able to structure my sentences more effectively. I was tired of being unable to convey my ideas properly, and that’s why I set a goal to change that — but of course, not in a drastic way.

Overcoming communication barriers

Are you sufficiently motivated? If something is bothering you about your shortcomings and it disturbs your peace of mind both at night and in the morning, don’t you think it needs to be addressed?

Perhaps you desire better health, yet find yourself reaching for ice cream every night, and it bothers you. If you’re content with your choices, that's your prerogative.

However, if you recognize that your actions are detrimental to your well-being and counterproductive to your goals, you may feel frustrated, annoyed, or even angry. At this point, isn’t it crucial to engage in a dialogue with yourself?

The impact of feelings of inadequacy

It's essential to realize that these feelings of inadequacy don't only affect you; they also impact those around you.

For instance, if a colleague shares something amazing that happened to them, and you find yourself grappling with jealousy and feelings of inadequacy, it can lead to an outburst. You might say something like, “You’re not that special anyway,” dragging someone else into your emotional turmoil. Each interaction then serves as a reminder of your own perceived failures.

Of course, not every interaction unfolds like this, but you get the gist of what I’m saying.

I could advise you to simply let it go, thinking “Some people are just more naturally talented.” However, as humans, we are inherently competitive, and even if you try to mentally block those feelings, they will persist.

Therefore, my suggestion is this: Focus on your own development and sharpen your skills to become the best version of yourself. As you do this, you will start to see more opportunities arise. You may discover areas where you excel compared to others, effectively finding your niche. In doing so, you will also realize your potential and begin to command the respect you deserve.
