Finding Your Writing Flow: Lessons from Mike Tyson
Written on
Chapter 1: The Challenge of Writing Consistently
Writing has always held a significant place in my life. As a non-native English speaker, maintaining a daily publishing routine is challenging due to various responsibilities and interests. It's not just about how often I publish; the quality of my work matters just as much. I need ample time to craft pieces that I feel genuinely proud of.
The initial weeks of my writing journey were an attempt to publish rapidly. I focused on speed, driven by determination and discipline. These traits, while essential, became overwhelming when I dialed down my joy and curiosity. The result? A sense of pressure and physical fatigue. I refuse to let that happen again; I want my writing to bring me joy.
Section 1.1: Insights from Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson once remarked, “Everybody has a plan until they get punched.” I entered this journey with a clear plan, but life had other ideas. My initial strategy was solid but didn’t align with my actual circumstances. It’s clear that I need to revise my approach to suit my reality better.
Section 1.2: Researching a New Approach
Why not transform this challenge into a meaningful research project? I aim to find a publishing rhythm that works for me and observe the outcomes.
Subsection 1.2.1: Embracing Structure
A quote from St. Augustine resonates with me: “Keep the order, and the order will keep you.” I anticipate that this journey will take time, and I want to savor both the process and the eventual outcome.
Chapter 2: Establishing a Publishing Schedule
I have decided to publish my work on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Additionally, I will create a short text series with a specific number of episodes that will be released on Sundays. The first Sunday is today, with six more to follow.
Description: Mike Tyson discusses the unpredictability of life and how plans can change unexpectedly. His insights can provide valuable lessons for writers facing challenges.
Six days of the week will be dedicated to developing my texts, responding to others, and improving my English skills. This new approach aims to alleviate the pressure of the "publish or perish" mentality. I started this two weeks ago, and I plan to evaluate my progress on March 13th.
Description: In this video, Mike Tyson emphasizes the importance of resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges, a crucial mindset for writers.
Have you ever felt this kind of pressure? How do you manage it? What does your workflow look like? Would you like to join me on this journey? Thank you for your time and support!
