Chapter 1: Revisiting Amie
In a previous discussion, I shared my first thoughts on the Amie app, and now it’s time for an updated perspective. My goal is to delve deeper into personal productivity applications, revisiting notable contenders to assess their evolution and share fresh insights.
Choosing Between Calendar Apps: Amie vs. Cron
A comparative look at the strengths of both Amie and Cron.
What is Amie?
Amie is an innovative combination of calendar, task management, and email organization tools, all designed with a philosophy centered around Joyful Productivity. What makes Amie unique is its emphasis on ensuring that each user interaction is enjoyable. Whether you're organizing tasks, scheduling meetings, responding to urgent emails, or taking quick notes, Amie aims to infuse joy into productivity.
In my initial assessment, I utilized Amie's task management capabilities for a few weeks before switching back to Todoist. Now, let's take another look at the essential features of Amie and evaluate its performance.
Amie is structured around three key components of daily productivity:
- Task Management
- Calendar Management
- Email Management
Task Management
My approach to managing tasks is straightforward, concentrating on deadlines and projects instead of prioritizing every single task. Amie effectively streamlines this process.
Within Amie, you can create task lists, assign priorities, set durations, establish recurring tasks, and set deadlines. One standout feature is its natural language processing (NLP) for creating and scheduling tasks, which enhances the overall user experience. Amie has one of the most impressive user interfaces in the productivity app sector, complete with convenient shortcuts that improve usability.
Additional functionalities include sub-tasks and notes within tasks, along with a dedicated task view. I maintain timeline-specific lists such as “This Week,” “This Month,” and “Writing Inbox.” Furthermore, integrations with Todoist, Things 3, and TickTick facilitate seamless task management.
Calendar Management
The calendar feature is where I excel, and Amie delivers one of the most elegantly designed, intuitive calendar experiences available. Whether accessed via web, app, or mobile device, planning my productive day feels seamless and effective.
Scheduling within Amie also benefits from NLP support, and the app integrates smoothly with major task management and project management tools like Notion and Linear. You can effortlessly drag and drop tasks into your calendar, making the scheduling process highly efficient. Amie also offers dedicated calendar views, customizable colors for different calendars, and integration with Zoom.
Email Management
Although not my primary focus, Amie’s email management feature deserves mention. With the Pro plan, you can reply to, compose, or schedule emails directly within the calendar interface. While I handle a large volume of emails daily and find the email management less practical for extensive tasks, the drag-and-drop functionality for prioritizing emails is quite beneficial.
Amie Pro
Amie provides a limited-feature free version and a Pro plan priced at $6 monthly or $4 annually (with a 7-day free trial). The Pro plan includes AI-enhanced scheduling and task management, email capabilities, unlimited integrations, custom app icons, picture-in-picture calendar views, and much more.
The app is accessible on iOS, macOS, Windows, and the Web.
Final Thoughts
I genuinely appreciate Amie. Its sleek, aesthetic design combined with its user-friendly experience makes it a leader in the productivity app space. Amie effectively integrates the three pillars of my productivity—task management, calendar, and email. I’ve decided to opt for the Pro plan to take full advantage of its features.
Amie’s emphasis on task prioritization and its intuitive calendar management enable me to concentrate on a few productive work sessions daily. I look forward to maximizing my experience with Amie’s thoughtful design and joyful user experience.
Additionally, I'm fond of two fantastic integrations: Spotify and Apple Health. While I may not be a fitness enthusiast, I aim for a 4–5 day a week workout routine, and Amie offers an excellent perspective on both integrations.
