Musk: “If I may, Senator, I’d like to respond with an emoji.”

Senator Gasbag: “No, you may not, young man. Please articulate your thoughts.”

Musk: “No, Senator, I must admit that my plans went awry. I flew too close to the sun, and my wings melted.”

Senator Gasbag: “Not just your wings, young man, but those of the entire nation. Do you comprehend the ramifications?”

Musk: “I do, Senator. However, I assure you my intentions were noble.”

Transition to the Past: April 2022

We flash back to a room filled with youthful, affluent vegans—the Twitter board. Heated discussions echo through the sparsely furnished space as the board contemplates Musk’s acquisition proposal.

Board Member A: “I say we accept his offer. Look at his achievements with electric vehicles and space exploration. What could possibly go wrong?”

Board Member B: “Are you serious? He wants to implement an edit button! And he might reinstate Trump! The implications… I am appalled.”

The scene shifts to a large convention hall filled exclusively with men, holding signs proclaiming “Hate Speech is Still Speech” and “If You Can Think It, You Can Say It.” Many sport lapel pins featuring Elon Musk’s photo. The group’s leader, clad in a T-shirt emblazoned with a large “Z,” takes the stage with a microphone in hand.

“Gentlemen: We are here to commemorate year two of Absolute Free Speech. Not long ago, expressing our most reprehensible thoughts was impossible. Remember the days when we were banned from making death threats? Those times are behind us. Long live Elon!”

“Hello, Donald, I mean, Mr. President.”

“Elon. Is that you?”

“Yes, sir. Can I return to Earth now?”

“Not yet, Elon, not just yet. Hang tight for your Senate hearing. My team will contact you soon. Gotta go.” The line disconnects.

As we zoom out from the phone screen, the starkness of the space station against the backdrop of Earth and the vast, indifferent cosmos becomes apparent. Roll credits.
