Building an Inclusive Community for Aspiring Writers

Chapter 1: The Birth of Read or Die
The creation of my publication stemmed from a desire to counter the elitist tendencies prevalent in many existing platforms. As a newcomer, I found numerous publications to be unwelcoming, often focusing on specific niches and taking an excessive amount of time to review submissions. Many would even reject submissions without providing constructive feedback, which left me feeling disheartened.
Some publication owners were overly strict, imposing rigid guidelines on writers and meddling too much in the editing process. While I didn’t mind some adjustments, certain rules felt trivial—like forbidding italics or exclamation points. After a while, I decided to limit my contributions to just a few outlets, but I still yearned for a personal space to share my narratives.
Thus, I took the initiative to establish Read or Die, a community-driven publication designed to be a welcoming haven for storytellers.
We embrace genuine diversity and inclusion, transcending mere politically correct gestures. I don’t scrutinize the backgrounds of the writers I invite; what matters is their willingness to contribute. Everyone is welcome—this is what true inclusion looks like.
Section 1.1: Embracing Authenticity
Nonetheless, I have firm standards regarding AI-generated content. I’ve had to decline several submissions and even part ways with a couple of writers who strayed into that territory, despite multiple warnings.
As our publication continues to flourish, I recognize that some adjustments will be necessary. However, I am committed to ensuring that our principles of inclusion and diversity remain intact.
Subsection 1.1.1: Discovering Talent
By observing writers in their natural environments, I’ve uncovered some remarkable talents. Our publication is brimming with unrefined potential. Over time, these individuals will naturally distinguish themselves as they strive to hone their craft. Who knows? They might even create something exceptional.
I firmly believe that exceptional writers will eventually rise to prominence. In the meantime, I am dedicated to supporting their development through our platform.
Section 1.2: The Path Forward
We, too, will gradually enhance our quality standards, primarily through the efforts of our current members. The growth of our community remains my top priority.
I aim to harness the collective strength of our contributors for both standard articles and engaging prompts. I also hope to inspire our writers to elevate their skills and produce higher-quality pieces over time.
I acknowledge that my aspirations may seem ambitious, but I’m undeterred. I am ready to put in the effort, especially since I’ve already seen promising outcomes.
The journey ahead may be challenging, but the rewards will be substantial. Together, as a community, we will face obstacles and evolve into better writers. Mark my words!
